10 End of a legacy

Lianndra Kyoti arrived in Sunset Valley with nothing but a few simoleans and a dream…

…to establish a legacy…

…that would impact the community…

…and last for ten generations.

Through trials and tribulations…

…death and (or should that be at?) celebrations…

…the members of the Kyoti family…

…clearly made their mark.

From Lianndra, the legacy passed to Kali, Amanda, Joseph, SatelliteJuno, Abel, Karis and Michael.Ā  And now it was Gemma who was ready to complete the ten-generation dream.

She arrived back at the legacy house…

…with her newborn son…

…and daughter.

Kalijo Abemi Kyoti and Laska Gemma Kyoti had completed the Kyoti legacy.

The future was theirs and theirs alone.

  1. I absolutely adore the ending! What a perfect way to close the legacy (with a male/female twin set none the less- what enables you to do that?)

Now I just have to make it through reading all 10 generations, something I seldom get time to do. Thanks for sharing šŸ™‚

    • Thanks!

Well, at least you know the updates won’t run away with you now! I had a master plan for AGES (like several generations back) to get mixed twins to end the legacy on. If you have a doctor (I’ve heard it can be at level 5 but have only ever tried it at level 10, so I don’t know if the L5 thing is true or not), they can diagnose the sex. If you know you’re likely to get multiples (e.g. fertility, spaces in house, kids’ TV and so on) you can then eat three opposite fruits and get mixed twins. So Gemma was having a girl, and she ate three apples – which you can, in fact, spot her doing in 9.4. I don’t know if you can get mixed triplets, though I will try in a future legacy. I made Rae become a doctor for precisely this reason and she was over 100 when the legacy ended so I was on tenterhooks hoping she’d live. Ending on mixed twins makes up for missing out on completing one of the LTWs I think.

My backup was to have two of the girls be pregnant at once and become joint heirs, getting one of them to have a girl and one to have a boy, but I couldn’t get Joanna to get a mate, and Nicola was busy being the EofE, so I’m glad the mixed twins plan worked!

      • I’m definitely looking forward to reading any other legacies you undertake, be sure to keep a link posted on this legacy blog if you do! Hopefully I’ll finally make some progress now that the ten generations have been birthed šŸ™‚

I didn’t know that different gendered twins were possible, but now I feel bad for all the fruit my pregnant simmies will be eating! I love how the plan worked, really it was a perfect ending. (Although joint heirs sounds equally adorable!)

      • You can get mixed triplets, if that means 2 of 1 gender and 1 of the other. For me it’s more rare to have all 3 of 1 gender than a mixed pair.
As for a mixed pair of twins, I get those all the time! My legacy founder (Bryn) had a romance with the butler, asked to be just Friends (after Woohooing with him, of course šŸ˜‰ and then called over Christopher Steele. They tried for a baby too, so for a while I didn’t know who the baby daddy was. She married Chris and then had her twins, a boy named Charles and a girl named Cate! Then she divorced Chris and married the butler, who shortly afterwards aged to an elder. Then she had Derek and Delilah. And I didn’t do anything to help the pregnancy. No fruit, no books, no tv or music. So it’s sort of easy. I love your legacy!

  2. I didn’t know about the mixed twins trick. I wonder if it works to eat 3 apples and 3 watermelon if you don’t have a doctor to predict the sex…?

Great job! I am sad to see it is over, seeing how I just found it last weekend… šŸ™‚

  3. I love the ending, congrats on completing the legacy! It’s definitely an awesome story, and holds attention right til the very end.

Can’t wait to read your next legacy! šŸ™‚

  4. Aww Rad:(, I knew it would come to this day, but I am nonetheless still very sad *sniff sniff*

Mixed twins šŸ˜€ Awesome! That was a perfect ending.

The final sentence of this chapter really rounded it off nicely.

I can’t wait for the next one… but as you say at least we can read your “Lazarus Despatches” in the meantime.

Congragulations, well done and thank you ever so much for keeping me glued to your blog and for all the advice and inspiration.

  5. Btw, I absolutely LOVE your new header.. just how in the world did you do that?

  6. *sigh* … Gimp..

I do have that, but everytime I switch it on it’s kind of daunting.

I have never worked with any picture editing software before, maybe that is why.

Excellent job with the banner again!

  7. DB loves her Mac

Awesimness! Congratulations on the perfect ending to your legacy! (Well, unless you were going to end with a combination wedding/birthday party in the bathroom, attended by Grimmy, lol). Very well done. I shall miss the Kyotis.

    • Well, considering Rae’s age, that could well have happened (not the wedding part mind) – but it didn’t so that’s why he had a little swansong in 9.3.

I can’t believe no-one has noticed what the babies are called yet…

  8. Mixed twins are the perfect way to end the Kyoti legacy, Rad. I’ve read Arin’s tutorial/proof but still have to try the doctor visit/eating opposite fruit thing.
Congrats on completing the legacy and I look forward to another šŸ™‚

  9. LOVELY! This is absolutely perfect!
Can you please tell us all what the baby names mean?

Congrats on your new header. It pulls it all together in a wink of the eye.

You must feel so proud and satisfied!
    Well done, Rad!!!:)

  10. Congrats on finishing the legacy. Love the mix gender twins at the end. Its so perfect.

  11. You replied to my thread over at the charm legacy and lead me here. I’m glad you did, read the whole thing and I love it!

  12. Awww so sweet. Loved the Legacy! Can’t wait for more. Atleast I’ve got the Lazarus’ to read in mean time.

  13. Just noticed you put you me as a bookmark on your other site. *hugs* Thankyou.

  14. Congratulations! (I know it’s late, but I just finished your legacy!) Yay Kyotis!

    • Awww, thanks for checking us out. If anyone else is reading raquelaroden writes the fab Edith Prescott Mystery Series and you should go and read it!

  15. Ooooo!!! Yay! This was a great day.. I started the morning reading your legacy… went to class (read part of it there)… went to choir and helped out at a leadership conference.. and came home and read your legacy.

    All in one day.
I feel like I’ve accomplished something (although not something as significant as your legacy!)

    • Wow, that really is some achievement! Thanks for giving us the time, hope you enjoyed reading about them. I feel a little nostalgic for them looking at your comments.

  16. Wow! I love this. And I adore their names. xD I’m so sad it’s over though.
Also, I’ve been able to update mine again (:

  17. OMG some one has actually finished a legacy! Congrats šŸ˜€

  18. I am laughing so hard I don’t even know where to begin! This is WONDERFUL! I started at the beginning this morning and read your entire legacy. Your sense of humor, your ability to point out the most bizarre details, put them in some sort of context, and the incredible characters….well it is just astounding!

Between the Evil Emperor Nicola and her chai latte, the constant trysts in the bathroom, the unwelcome party guest with the big hook, your descriptions from the very beginning (“Jared was a heavy sleeper…”), you had me completely fascinated, amused, and cheering for Lianndra’s long line of heiresses.

    Really, really charming and delightful!!

    • You read it all on one day? Madness, but thank you! What nice comments. I’m glad I made you laugh. I think your stories are going to take me way more than one day to read but I’ve made a start on the first two of Gayl’s earliest chapters today… I’ll get there eventually…

  19. I read your entire legacy through today, which took me about three hours, but I didn’t mind at all. This is a brilliantly written legacy, and one day I hope to publish one of my own, and hope that it’s half as good as yours.

And the mixed twins were a perfect way to end the legacy. I couldn’t think of any other way. And now I’m going to update myself on the last couple of posts from Dayes Of Our Lives & the Lazarus Apocalypse series.

Well done for completing your legacy, Rad, even if I am a bit late in congratulating you on this achievement. šŸ™‚

    • Aww thank you! Wow, that’s a LOT of time to dedicate to my legacy, I appreciate it. Do publish your own, ane let me know when you do as I’ll read it.

  20. Congratulations,Rad! Ive read Generations 2-10 today and I read gen 1 last night. Youve done an amazing job and I loved reading this story. You and Aoxa (The Smith Legacy (check it out on the sims 3 Website) have two very different ways of writing but I have very much enjoyed both. Yours is more story-based than Aoxa’s but enjoyed it just as much all the same. You should feel proud because this is the second legacy I have actually kept up with/read the whole way through.

P.S I loved how you named the 10th gen babies after their ancestors. Its a very nice touch.

    • Wow, thank you very much for getting through the whole lot! Will check out Aoxa’s legacy, thanks for the recommendation!

  21. That’s so cool that you finished the whole challenge! Could you check out mine? I used to post on thesims3.ea.com, but I switched over to WordPress. I’m only on generation 3.

  22. *WAAAH!* It sucks that the legacy is over, but you did a phenominal job. THE best legacy I have ever read, and you actually completed it. The characters were great, and I felt like I was a part of the family. I loved the legacy, and with tears in my eyes, I leave the page. Great job, Rad, great job. šŸ™‚

  23. I would also like to add that at the top of the page, the collage of all the faces was great. When I saw it originally, I thought you got it off the internet, but now I recognise all of the faces! Very cool! PS: I loved every character. (Elias!! Jospeh!! Amanda!! Carmel!! Lianndra!! Who knew that Jared Frio could be part of a great legacy. Will think of him differently forever more!) Do you ever see Jared Frio on another game and get a weird feeling? Heehee, I’ll pull a Gemma! “What!?! He lived a life he never knew about?! Aliens!!!” LOL. I ā¤ this legacy.

    • šŸ™‚

I always stick up for Jared when people diss him now. He was cool. Glad you like the banner, it took a bit of time but I think it’s worth it.

  24. I just committed to reading this entire legacy for three straight hours and I’m blown away by its EPICNESS!! I just love how you creatively craft this masterpiece from start to finish and I’m glad and proud to have this as the first legacy that I have read till the end, just WOW!! šŸ˜€
I’m a new(or old since I’ve played from Sims 1) simmer and I’m planning on writing my first legacy(but I can’t start until my laptop is back from repairs and I can install the base game, ep’s and stuff packs) and I’m just reading other legacies for tips and ideas(I love the lazaruses and the dayes) and i like the material I’m getting from you, hrootbeer(the kendricks and succubuses ) as well as many others from the links on your main site. I hope that when I’m properly set up that you’ll be able to read mine and link it to your main site. Keep up the good work!! šŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much! Just drop me a note over at the main blog when you get started, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

  25. I only just read this… I read it all this morning (in the space of about 3 hours on and off) and I love it… in fact, as much as I think I’ll get fed up and not carry on, I plan to start my own Sims 3 Legacy. Thank you so much for this fantastic story – I loved every minute of it šŸ˜€

  26. WOW. All I can say is incredible!!! I began reading your legacy 3 days ago, and I was hooked! Any spare time I had between my classes and work I’d hop over to your site to finish the Legacy. It was so entertaining, from the images to the narrative- I loved it all!

This is the first legacy I’ve read since Sims 3 came out, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find anyone who can top the Kyoti’s šŸ™‚
Congrats and good luck to your future stories!

    • Wow, that’s a lovely comment, thank you so much! (Can I ask how you found it – Boolprop, EA forums, elsewhere? Am getting new readers all the time and I always wonder where they come from)

There are some great legacies out there – I link to a whole bunch of them over on http://radsims.wordpress.com if you want to check some out.

      • I’m thinking to do the Legacy Challenge, and I wanted to read about one. I did a google search online for a Sims 3 legacy. I’m not exactly sure how I stumbled upon it, but it came up in the search. Your site is well organized-I’m bit of a organization freak šŸ˜‰ , and the images looked pretty good- not fuzzy like the pictures from the Sims 3 exchange. After a few chapters, your humor truly had me laughing out loud at times. It really was great to see how you did it and gave me an excellent look into how Legacies are done. Thanks!

  27. Wow, Rad, I really love your family. I’ve spent the whole afternoon going through your posts, and it has really been worthwhile – now I feel like starting my own legacy. šŸ™‚ I adore your humour and the way you incorporate speech and thought bubbles into the story … really makes me want to play Sims 3 again. Thank you! Now I’m definitely checking out your Apocalypse story next.
(By the way, I found your page through Google, too, it’s the second hit if you look for “sims 3 legacy”.)

  28. Wow, not to be a suck up but I love this legacy! I recently started one of my own and I hope it will be as successful as yours! Coincidentally, I had a similar idea for naming the tenth generation (although the second gen. still has yet to be born): she will be named Heather Alexa after same as a founder. ^–random side note: I just realized that’s a frowny face

Also, you should continue the Kyoti legacy somehow, sort of like HarmonySims continued her 100 baby challenge, even after it technically ended.

    • The Kyoti Legacy is definitely over. Not least because I lost the save files šŸ˜¦ (I still have copies of the last generation sims but not the house, which had all the portraits, graves etc).

I didn’t feel I wanted to go anywhere else with the main family, and to continue doing something or other with the twins would kind of cheapen the ending. When things are over, they’re over, you know? I am considering using one (or possibly two) of the Gen 9 spares in a future project, however, along with one or two of the kids from the last generation of my apocalypse family, but I haven’t decided 100% if they’ll be involved yet.

Thank you for your comments. Do you have a link to your legacy?

  30. Wow. Unlike most other this legacy actually kept me hooked the whole time. I read it over two days…. good fun. It even inspired me to do my own, though mines a “random legacy challenge,” theres less freedom but it’s more of a practice run than anything. Maybe if i practice a lot and try real hard i might be almost as good at this as you. šŸ˜‰

  31. OOPS I sent it twice :S

  32. I switched to a normal legacy, any tips for a newbie? Just click my name to look at my blog.

  33. Both. Haha. šŸ™‚

  34. check out my blog?
    thanks and happy simming!

  35. Just spend 4 hours reading this whole legacy, and I’d like to echo many other comments in saying that you are a brilliant writer and I thoroughly enjoyed the story šŸ™‚ I’ve never tackled any sort of challenge on Sims, but I love reading about other people’s and it’d be fun to try if I ever had the time. How many hours do you think you spent playing/writing this legacy over all?

    • Too many! Probably not as long as my current legacy because the Kyotis were able to be on free will a bit more, but most legacies will take 6 months – a year to complete if you play for several hours a week.

  36. Your story was absolutely amazing! I just read the whole thing in one sitting because it was so captivating.. I just couldn’t look away. I am inspired to actually finish a legacy and record it now.

  37. Well, I started my own legacy and a blog for it. If you have any interest, take a look at it =D
Would you be terribly offended if I put a link to your site on mine?

  38. Hi,
I just wanted to leave a comment to say how much I enjoyed reading this legacy. I’m just about to start one of my own (though I probably wont write mine up)
I found your’s and I loved it so much I’ve just sat here and read the whole thing in one go.
I hope it was as much fun to play as it was to read šŸ™‚

  39. this was really awesome to read! i loved it all.

  40. HEY! That was soooo cool. I want to start a legacy, but I have a short attention span lol. I get tired of the same people. Any tips? and how on earth did you get the mixed twins?

    • If you have a short attention span, maybe do a different kind of challenge instead? šŸ˜‰ Or have another game/challenge alongside the legacy so you can dip in and out. Keep it fresh by trying new LTWs, using new traits, new careers and so on. My general tips are on the ‘reflections’ page, although obviously this legacy was just base game. If you pop over to Dayes of Our Lives, that’s my current legacy and I’m using all the EPs there.

I got Rae to diagnose the sex of the baby, then Gemma ate the opposite fruit. It’s easier to get mixed multiples if you have Twallan’s mods installed though.

      Thanks for reading!

  41. I read this legacy from begin-in-ing to end and love it! Thank you šŸ™‚ xx

  42. Da Cow Goez Moo

WOAH! I read this from the beginning and woah. amazing. I love the ending and I found myself wishing for more! Beautifully composed… šŸ˜€

  43. I’ve read this whole thing in a day (well, not a literal day, but a 24 hour day. Right now it’s almost 1:00 in the morning) and it is amazing. Of course, now I’ve shirked all my school work and everything, but it was all worth it. Off to read the Dayes now!

  44. What a great way to end a legacy šŸ˜€ I’ve read through all of it in like two days and i really ejoyed it ^^.. and it’s given me lots of inspiration to continue on my own legacy! (http://cherielegacy.wordpress.com) So I guess i should thank you! šŸ™‚

  45. I finally got through the entire legacy…I absolutely love your writing!

  46. lipglosschaos

I love love love your legacy!!!! You’ve inspired me to actually ocmplete my own- I’vem ade 4 attempts and never gotten past gen3, but now I am DETERMINED! Once I have some posts I’ll send you thel ink if you care at all about reading it.

  47. I just read through this entire legacy, over the past week or so, and I must say it was a lot of fun! I started reading Taken quite awhile back and was most of the way through the Kyoti’s before I realized you were the same writer! I have also just started on the Dayes. So far, everything you do with the Sims has been really fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

    • Aww thank you so much šŸ™‚ Yeah, there are a lot of stories… and I’m planning another one when I finish Operation: Population!

  48. That was so AWESOME!Im sad its over though šŸ˜¦
You are an AMAZING writer šŸ™‚
Check out my blog? =P Sorry if im being annoying
The beginning is very slow because i was still trying to get a feel for it,but i think it get a little better =P

  49. Love how you set this up and your style, I have just started a legacy here: http://theburgesslegacy.wordpress.com

  50. I finally finished reading this over the last two days (slow work days).

I play “legacy style” but without keeping score. I typically only control one sim and let the others run on autopilot. I approach it like a roleplaying game ( I also play a lot of D&D) where I am playing as one of the characters and the others are played by friends of mine. I can’t handle micromanaging a house full of Sims. But I guess that’s a dude thing as we notoriously do not multitask well.

I am a fan of evil Nicola. I must have her in one of my games…

  51. I really loved you legacy blog! Your storytelling is great! I hope you don’t mind me adding a link to your legacy on my own page, http://torrelianlegacy.wordpress.com/ .

  52. I loved every minute of that legacy! Inspired! šŸ™‚

  53. Wow, just read the whole thing in one evening. Really enjoyed it and it has got me psyched for trying out my own legacy. Love it!

  54. Rad, you said you didnt know if you could have boy and girl triplets, and you can. I know this because it haoened to me. I had 2 boys and 1 girl. Just wanted to let you know(:

    • You can indeed – did you get them via game only though, or do you have Twallan’s mods installed (in my experience his mods make it way more likely)?

  55. cried when i finished your legacy! inspired me to start my own,
it would be awesome if you (or anyone else) could check it out!:

  56. Loved the Ending!

  57. Wow, what an amazing story! I read this last week and have been enjoying your other work since. Thank you for your dedication to doing such a long challenge and giving each character such individual flavour!

  58. Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this legacy. Your storytelling is so much fun to read. I’m going to miss them! That means I am done with Bebe, the Kyoti’s and caught up with Dayes. Time to round it out with some..Lazurus’ (or would their plural be Lazuri?), the rest of Taken and the rest of the Rainbow Knights.

  59. My computer died, so I’m catching up on my reading with my iPad while waiting for my new power supply to ship here.

I should mention that I have been done with Bebe for a few months. It was one of the first WYD that I read.

I haven’t heard of Kingsfield, but I will have to look into that. Thanks!

  60. Wow, congrats on finishing.

If you have time I would love if you checked out my blog.

    • Thanks! I haven’t read any blogs for a while – realistically the first time I have will be the Christmas holidays (two weeks off work! Such luxury!) so I might be able to check it out then. Good luck with it!

  61. Lol I love how all the names seem normal, and then you have Sattelitejuno. Its so random!

  62. I love your legacy. I just finished reading it for the third time, I was wondering were you planning for the heirs to go in a girl boy order, or was it something that just happened?

    • It just happened at first, then part way through I tried to keep it up with apples and watermelons. Thanks for your comments. Three reads? Wow!

  63. (Ive left this on a few other legacies) Hi im kinda new to blogging and i wondering if you had any advice on how to setup the blog for a sims 3 family legacy if you can provide me with some tips i would gladly appreciate it!

    • If you are new to WordPress, i would look up some tutorials. Categories and tags will help organise your content. Make sure there’s always an easy way for people to access your first post and your most recent one. And have fun!

  64. sophiateaspoon

Hey guys, if you would like check out my sims 3 legacy https://theloyallegacy.wordpress.com/chapters/

  65. I just finished reading your legacy, and I have to say, it’s a wonderfully-written one! I’m doing a legacy myself, although I’m only up to gen 4 (who are still kids, 3rd gen heir is pregnant with baby #3). Although I am curious, do you have any other legacy challenges of yours posted? I’d love to read more of yours.
