8.12 Song for my Father

Joanna Kyoti was panicking.  What was her father doing, just leaping into the fire like that?  He was an old man, surely he couldn’t withstand that kind of danger.  She screamed at Michael to be careful.

Michael reached for the fire extinguisher and set it off.  It produced a huge burst of water, much more substantial than anything the firefighters had been able to get from their own extinguishers.

Michael Kyoti was not going to let anything get in the way of his family’s happiness, and he was so angry at the fire for ruining his little boy’s birthday.  The fire would not win.

Unsinged, unscathed, Micahel stood triumphant – one elderly man had been able to do much, much more than Sunset Valley’s “finest”.

Screenshot-900

He celebrated by trying on that weird mask toy thing Nicola was always going on about.

Screenshot-905

And he and wife Rae slept soundly that night, holding on to each other, so grateful they had more time together.  Either would be heartbroken without the other, they’d been a pair for so long, and had been through so much together.

Screenshot-862

The next day his good luck carried on, and he was finally promoted to the top of the business career, meaning that a member of the family had now gotten to the top level of every full-time career in the Valley.  It was a proud, proud time to be Michael Kyoti.

Screenshot-865

He was even prouder to be able to finally celebrate his youngest child’s birthday.  Alfie Win was terrified of the cake but his daddy promised it would be OK, and the little boy, trembling, blew out the candles.

Screenshot-869

He grew up to be rather cute…

Screenshot-868

…but the birthday party fire had terrified him so much he’d developed a cowardly streak.

Screenshot-872

Downstairs, his Uncle Wesley celebrated.  He had had a blast seeing his little nephew grow up.  Little did the family know this would be the last time they ever saw him.

Screenshot-882

Jono Kyoti was promoted to being a ‘Bagman’ in the criminal career.  Slowly, but surely, he was working his way up the ranks of the underworld.

Screenshot-887

However, his attempts weren’t helped by the fact that when he went across the road to talk to his boss CeCe, she was at a very busy party – it was clearly the place to be seen, as his aunt Emma Mabel was there, and she was always at the popular places.

Screenshot-898

He gave up on the party and came home to perfect his ‘Roland’ sprinkler dance.

Screenshot-906

Nicola wasn’t having her brother behaving in such a manner, though, and soon hauled him up to the cops’n'robbers room for some athletic training and evil scheming.

Screenshot-919

She was already getting promoted much faster than Jono, and was now rising up the Evil branch of the Criminal career.  She wasn’t keen on her little brother and partner in evil being left behind when they had a city to take over.

Screenshot-902

Despite living with two wanted criminals, Joanna was loving being in the police force.  Rae couldn’t believe how relaxed her daughter was these days – a far cry from the Joanna of old.

However, there was one of the Kyotis who wasn’t enjoying life much at the moment.

Screenshot-901

Gemma’s boyfriend Joel had died of old age before she was able to marry him.  They hadn’t been as close in recent days, with him often not being able to come over and visit, or else coming for a party and rushing off.  Rae tried her best to comfort her daughter.

Screenshot-895

Gemma had a lot of thinking to do.  She still didn’t want to have to find a job – but where would she find a nice rich man to marry and live off now?  What if her having no money meant her whole family suffered?  What if they couldn’t pay the bills anymore?

Screenshot-827

Rae pondered Gemma’s situation.  It wasn’t good for the girl to be alone, and seeing as she was set on marrying a rich man, the least Rae could do was help her out.  She thought about all the Valley residents she knew and tried to remember which ones were rich, were single, and most importantly, were good enough for her girl.  Someone sprang to mind, and she was about to call him, when she heard a strange noise from downstairs.

Screenshot-911

Michael Kyoti was midway through a painting when he felt woozy and he heard an old, familiar, tingling sound.

Screenshot-912

He was sad to be leaving his children, particularly his youngest boy, whom he hadn’t seen grow up to be an adult yet.  He was sad to be leaving his family’s legacy unsure, with none of his daughters yet having a child.  But most of all, he was sad to be leaving his beloved wife Rae.

Screenshot-913

At 93 years old, Michael Kyoti, loving husband and brother, father-of-six and the eighth generation heir, was taken, without knowing which, if any, of his children would bring Lianndra Kyoti’s ten generation dream to fulfillment…

  1. I like that Michael didn’t die in the fire, and died at the end of the chapter – peacefully – instead.

    • Me too. I was on massive tenterhooks during that fire, and was very impressed that he dealt with it without even getting singed.

  2. Ahh… so sad. Glad you got that last career thing though. :)

    • Well, I didn’t exactly – I mean, I have topped all the full-time careers (only one of the part-time ones though, and that was only because Kali stayed in a part-time job all his life), but Master Thief wasn’t done as an LTW so I still need Jono to do it in terms of actually point-scoring.

  3. At least he died peacefully.
I am amazed he managed to put such a big fire out.

Am I assuming correctly that Wesley died as well?

Gemma better get moving if she wants to live off a man.. I wonder who Rae has in mind?

    • Who needs the Sunset Valley Fire Brigade when you’ve got Michael Kyoti, eh?

Yes Wesley died, at 89, which seemed a bit early! Harry and Emma Mabel are still alive though I suspect they’ll die in the next play session.

Gemma really had better marry soon… the girls are all several days into their adult bar now.

  4. Aww, I liked Wesley, he was always there for the family, and you right 89 does seem a bit early, maybe he was tired:(

  5. Rest in peace, Michael.

Wow, nice resoluation to the fire scene, especially the way it played into Alfie Win’s next trait!

If Gemma doesn’t conceive on the first try, you can always give her the fertility treatment. That increases the chances of a lullaby.

I think I need to go back and look at the rules. You’re doing Pinstar’s rules, right? I didn’t realize there were points in career topping aside from LTWs. Yipes!

    • There aren’t. I just wanted to top them all for my own amusement. Hence why I don’t have a Master thief point yet despite topping the career. Don’t panic!!! (My score is on the top anyway if you get confused, it isn’t spoilery at the moment like it sometimes is).

  6. Wow! Michael was a true hero there. He must have been in an outstanding mood and very lucky to come out of that inferno without so much as a singed eyebrow. It’s really cool.

Well done to get to the top of every single career!

Can’t wait to see who is going to be pregant first and deliver the final generation!

  7. Holy cow. I’m stunned that Michael managed to put out that massive inferno all on his own. So sad to see him go, but I’m glad he didn’t burn to death.

Poor Alfie Win trembling at his cake. I want to hug him!

Congrats on getting to the top of all the careers. That takes some doing!

I can’t believe you’re nearly done. I am going to miss the Kyotis.

Oooh, but then I can start following your other stories. That’s alright, then! :-D

    • I am too! I can’t believe it’ll only be a week or two at most until the challenge ends but looking forward to new things (and getting further in the apoc challenge).

Michael took forever and a day to top out business for some reason (he was at level 9 with a tiny bit on his bar for ages) but I was glad he did it as I kicked Rain out at level 8 when she’d done the LTW so hadn’t seen anyone top business. In retrospect, I should have kept her in to top it – she wouldn’t have earned points for topping it but she might have got her LTH up to 100K and earned a point that way.

I’m going to do a little interesting tips I learned and things I would have done differently post at the end of the legacy I think.

  8. Oh, and this is so sad and geeky but I just realised my Martha Jones and Rose Tyler sims are at the ‘party’ at the posh house across the road for any Who fans out there. I met the 9th doctor when I was trying to suss out spouses for Gemma, too, but marrying him would be against the rules (and I can’t remember if he’s rich or not).

  9. aww, RIP Michael. Putting out that fire on his own — that was amazing! I’m glad he got to spend more time with Rae and see little Alfie age up a bit more. That picture of Michael and Rae in bed is so sweet :)
